Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is a common but serious condition that can affect not only your oral health but also your overall well-being. At Ace Dental Studio in Southport, Gold Coast, we offer comprehensive gum disease treatment to halt the progression of the disease and restore the health of your gums.

Gum disease ranges from simple gum inflammation (gingivitis) to more severe forms (periodontitis). It's typically caused by plaque buildup, and if left untreated, can lead to tooth loss. Symptoms include swollen, red, bleeding gums, bad breath, and in advanced stages, receding gums and loose teeth.

  • Early signs include red, swollen, or bleeding gums, bad breath, and gum tenderness. It's important to seek treatment at these early stages to prevent further progression.

  • We strive to make treatment as comfortable as possible. Local anaesthesia can be used during deep cleaning, and we offer various options to manage discomfort for more advanced treatments.

  • Good oral hygiene, including regular brushing and flossing, and routine dental check-ups, are key to preventing gum disease. Quitting smoking and maintaining a healthy diet also help.

  • Deep cleaning, or scaling and root planing, involves removing plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line and smoothing rough spots on the tooth root where germs gather.

  • Recovery time varies depending on the severity of the disease and the treatment method. Most patients resume normal activities within a day of deep cleaning, but more advanced treatments may require a longer recovery.

  • Many dental insurance plans cover at least part of gum disease treatment. We recommend checking with your provider, and our staff can assist with any insurance queries.

  • Yes, untreated gum disease can increase the risk of health issues like heart disease, diabetes, and stroke due to the inflammation and bacteria entering the bloodstream.
