Tooth gems can be applied without drilling the tooth when conventional dental bonding techniques are used.

However, they are not appropriate for every tooth or every patient. At Ace Dental Studio, the tooth can be assessed before placement to determine whether there are any dental concerns that may make a tooth gem unsuitable.

A standard tooth gem generally does not require drilling into the natural tooth. However, poor placement, inappropriate adhesives, plaque accumulation around the gem or attempting to remove a gem yourself may potentially cause problems. Professional placement, good oral hygiene and professional removal are recommended.

For a standard tooth gem application, drilling of the natural tooth is generally not required. The enamel surface is prepared and the gem is bonded using dental adhesive materials.

Tooth gem placement is generally non-invasive and does not normally require local anaesthetic or injections. You may feel the dental team working around the tooth, but the procedure itself should not involve drilling into the tooth for a standard application.

There is no guaranteed timeframe. Tooth gem retention varies depending on the tooth, placement, bite, oral hygiene, diet and individual habits. Some may remain attached considerably longer than others.

Yes. A dentist can remove a tooth gem and polish away residual bonding material from the enamel. Avoid trying to forcibly remove the gem yourself.
